A letter to the President of the United States Mr. Donald J. Trump
Dear Mr. President Donald J Trump,
I take the liberty of writing to you because I believe you may be the world leader best positioned to help bring about the establishment, within the World Health Organization (WHO), of a task force composed of life science researchers and artificial intelligencespecialists focused on cure for the nervous system. Such a task force should lay thegroundwork for discovering treatments in the nervous system by collecting and integratingexisting neuroscience knowledge and using artificial intelligence to identify patterns anduncover important connections within that knowledge.
Mr. President,
The global neuroscience community—and indeed the entire world—are in great need of strong political leadership capable of enabling the breakthrough in the nervous system that humanity so urgently requires. If you had the opportunity to influence the WHO to take on the leadership role described above, you would be doing humanity a great service. The worldowes it to the vision of former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt that a vaccine for poliowas discovered. I respectfully ask whether you might be willing to follow his example anduse your influence to support efforts addressing paralysis caused by accidents or diseases, aswell as other disorders of the nervous system.
Examples of neurological injuries and diseases include spinal cord injury/paralysis, braininjury, Alzheimer’s disease, mental illnesses, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis(MS), and ALS. None of these conditions can currently be cured.
Mr. President,
From my long struggle advocating for spinal cord injury, I have learned that the onlyeffective way to mobilize the World Health Organization is through very strong politicalleadership. In recent years, I have sent six letters to Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, requesting the establishment of the above-mentioned task force, butwithout success. The current government in Iceland does not have the level of politicalinfluence on the international stage required in this case.
I believe that there is significant underutilized scientific knowledge in the field of neuroscience that needs to be unified and better utilized. I say this based on 35 years of following the field, since my daughter sustained a spinal cord injury in a car accident andbecame paralyzed. She passed away last year, still confined to a wheelchair.
I sincerely hope, Mr. President, that you may use your influence in this matter so that neurological treatments can advance to a higher level.
Yours sincerely,
Audur Guðjónsdóttir

Attached is a parliamentary resolution proposal submitted by Foreign Minister Mr. Marco Rubio to the U.S. Congress in 2024, which has proven beneficial for spinal cord injuries inn USA.
