A letter to Marco Rubio og Tammy Baldwin

Dear Ambassador Billy Long,

Welcome to Iceland to you and your family. I hope that you will have a happy and fulfillinglife here.

The reason I am writing to you is that I read on mbl.is on August 23 that you had, in a video, sent your greetings to the Icelandic people and said that Iceland and the United States wouldaccomplish great things together.

Your words greatly encouraged me, because I have an idea for a project that fits exactly with what you said. In my view, if this project were put into action, it could be the most significantthing that the United States and Iceland could do together for humanity.

The project is as follows:

That the United States and Iceland jointly encourage the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish a task force consisting of life-science researchers and artificial intelligenceexperts. Its purpose would be to bring together the scientific knowledge that currently existsconcerning the nervous system and use artificial intelligence to search for common patternsand uncover important connections within this vast body of data.

I am convinced that, if this were done, it could lead to breakthroughs in the treatment andultimately the cure of spinal cord injury and other neurological disorders.

Examples of conditions affecting the nervous system include spinal cord injury/paralysis , brain injury, mental health disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), ALS, and migraine.

Dear Ambassador

Now I would like to ask whether you might be able to help encourage the President of theUnited States and the Prime Minister of Iceland to jointly approach the leadership of theWHO and advocate for the implementation of the proposal outlined above.

By doing so, you and they could make an enormous contribution to the world.

In 2022 the WHO established a Decade of Action for Epilepsy and Other NeurologicalDisorders, through resolution A75/10 Add.4 Through the work of my organization, ISCI, theIcelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Mission of Iceland in Geneva, and with the support of the American Embassy in Geneva, we succeeded in having the entire field of neurological disorders included in this initiative.

Since then, however, very little has happened within the WHO in terms of the action that I believe is necessary to move us closer to cures for spinal cord injuries and other neurologicaldisorders.

I would like to ask you, dear Ambassador, to take the time to watch an eight-minute video inwhich I explain this project: https://www.isci.is/bring-the-world-closer-to-a-cure

By listening to the video, you will gain a clear understanding of the project. I recently sent the video to the WHO leadership, and I have heard through the grapevine that it has beenviewed and received positively.

Attached is a copy of a letter I sent to President Donald J. Trump last April. I know that theletter was received at the White House.

Also attached is a copy of a letter from Margaret Goldberg, President of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, to Alma Möller, Iceland’s Minister of Health.

In addition, is attached a congressional resolution concerning spinal cord injury that wasintroduced in the United States Congress by your current Secretary of State, Mr. Marco Rubio, when he was a member of Congress from Florida.

I am also including a 48-second tv ad that I am currently having distributed on social mediain 29 languages.

With respect and sincere regards,
