Stand with the Nervous System

Now, we Icelanders must continue to stand with the nervous system and, in doing so, serve humanity. We need to ensure that the nervous system is recognized as an independent development goal by the United Nations this coming September. Securing the nervous system as a development goal would draw global attention to its challenges and increase funding for neurological research.
The Icelandic government has been working on this issue within the United Nations, but they report that the process has been difficult. If they could advocate based on the premise that the Icelandic people strongly demand that nations worldwide launch a global initiative to improve understanding of the nervous system, it could make all the difference. Grassroots movements often have the greatest impact.
For this reason, SEM, the MND Association, the MS Society, Geðhjálp (Mental Health Alliance), the Parkinson’s Association, Lauf Epilepsy Association, the Icelandic Spinal Cord Injury Institute, and Heilaheill (Brain Health Association of Iceland) are calling on the public to stand with the nervous system and sign their names in support of this initiative at taugakerfid.is.
Everything is at stake for the nervous system, as the next UN development goals will not be set until 2030. The nervous system cannot wait that long for a global effort to be launched.
