Announcement from the Government of Iceland

9.3.2011 audur Promoting greater international understanding of spinal cord injury 9.3.2011

The Government of Iceland has decided to entrust the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Welfare and the Ministry of the Interior with investigating the manner in which Iceland can promote greater international understanding of spinal cord injury.

In May 2011, The United Nations will be launching a campaign to promote road traffic safety. The initiative will last for a decade and countries worldwide are urged to encourage improvements in traffic issues, increase the use of safety equipment and to reduce speed limits, as well as to improve responses to road accidents. The Icelandic Institute of Spinal Cord Injury has been involved in promoting greater international realization of spinal cord injury, and the Icelandic authorities have assisted the Institute in a variety ways over the past few years.
